I'll tell you where I am - over at Makibird-Stitching making cross stitch patterns for people. If you need to contact me best do it there, I don't have the opportunity to take many photos and have lost my muse where 3D art is concerned. So come over and poke me.

All my cross stitch patterns have been moved to Makibird-Stitching and are being deleted from this account.

Fa la la la la, la la la la.

You can tell Mercury is retrograde. The past two weeks we've had so many identical problems on totally different machines. And those that aren't the same as another are completely and utterly obscure. Like the ACER laptop who's mouse and keyboard won't work when the battery is plugged in. Most of the hardware issues that aren't user caused are borked hard drives which all show the same symptoms - PC/laptop in a reboot loop. Partitions become corrupt, data cannot be retrieved because the paritions are corrupt.

The only other problem we've had in is viruses. WinAntiVirus Pro 200x usually.

Why do people still think that giving details and money away to a random company that installed it's own software on their PC is a good idea?

What would you do if someone came up to your house, smashed a window, knocked a door and went "'scuse me love, your window's broken. Give me $937 dollars and I'll replace it for you."? You certainly wouldn't hand over your wallet...

Nifty sewing type site

Journal Entry: Mon Sep 29, 2008, 7:59 AM

Cross posted on WingTips

My latest favourite site!

Enter your dimensions, count, stitching, border and framing allowance and not only will it tell you how much fabric you need but show you a preview too!
On 28 count fabric stitching over 2
Width x Height
Stitched dimensions 3.71 x 5.71 inches
Framed dimensions 5.71 x 7.71 inches
Total fabric requirements 17.71 x 19.71 inches

The top left stitch will be 7.00 inches in and 7.00 inches down from the top left corner of the fabric.

I love it!  <3  Check it out at Scarlet Quince (a slightly dubious sounding name though..). They also advertise free patterns, though I haven't had a chance to check them out yet. What's also neat is floss coverage examples and finishing and cleaning tips.

Funky, monkeys!

Cross posted from my news article

Please help us raise awareness for this.

What is Tŷ Hafan?

Tŷ Hafan is a children's hospice in Wales, which provides respite, palliative and end of life care to the children in Wales who suffer from life limiting conditions. (Life limiting conditions are those which mean that the child or young person is not expected to reach nineteen years of age.)

Children suffer from various conditions, such as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Cystic Fibrosis and Celebral Palsy. Some children are diagnosed at birth; others receive no diagnosis or at some point treatment is abandoned. Children and their families might receive our support for many years or just for a few days at the end of life. Either way, Tŷ Hafan provides love, care and support for the children and their families absolutely free of charge.

Tŷ Hafan, The Children's Hospice in Wales, is a registered charity and was established entirely from public donations. It now costs £2.5 million a year to run the hospice and all but 17% (Government funding) is raised through the generosity of our donors and supporters.

What is the Tŷ Hafan Dragon?

Can you imagine the emblem of Wales, the Welsh Dragon, the size of a rugby pitch and made up of thousands of pieces of textile craft?

Tŷ Hafan is asking the people of Wales, and beyond, to produce small pieces of textile work, in a given size and colour, to make up this enormous glorious patchwork!

Be Part of the Dragon squares

These can be done in knitting, cross stitch, weaving, fabric painting, patchwork itself in fact ANY craft as elaborate or as simple as you like. ANYONE CAN TAKE PART!

The squares will be joined together in sections of 48, by our volunteers, to form blanket-sized pieces each of which become a "jigsaw" piece of the Dragon.

These will then all be placed together to form the whole design.

Apply as an individual, or why not get together in your group or school and produce enough squares for a whole blanket (or more) to better represent yourselves in this epic project.

----------------------------------------------------------------

This information was taken from the Tŷ Hafan Website. Visit the link for more information and an application form.

While I haven't had any personal experience with the Tŷ Hafan hospice, everyone in Wales knows how much good they do for children who are terminally ill and their families. Tŷ Hafan relies on it's donors to be able to continue to support those who suffer.

When complete, this patchwork masterpiece will be spread across the pitch of the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

With one square, you could make a world of difference. Let's make this a DA effort.

Squee! Currently working on my new site, I'm hoping to transfer my favourite photos onto there, Wingtips, come and see me there.

I've really enjoyed working with Wordpress, got a cute little theme free from :iconarwenita:. Her art is so adorable, she's really talented. Her mugs are on my wishlist, I'm so going to get one.

Also going to be featuring free cross stitch patterns and such.

Stitchin' - Help needed!

Mon Mar 24, 2008, 6:50 PM
Apologies for my complete lack of inactivity..again! *looks up at her 1,379 deviations, 1,112 messages and shudders*
I have a good reason this time! My watchers will have noticed the theme of my most recent polls..stitching. I've been working on little embroidery projects now and again since small. A few years ago I bought a Dimensions Gold kit.. the best quality cross stitch kit I've ever seen. Dimensions Gold range are well worth the money. I will eventually finish it one day.. check out my progress here. It's a huge project and a little daunting at times; you can see the size on the frame..and that's only a fraction of the canvas, the rest is rolled around the frame. The chart is printed on A3 paper..it's a whopper. That was my only project until a few weeks ago when a friend of mine became pregnant. She had a little girl in January, and by then I'd managed to put together a little card for her. She adored it and it spurred me on to sew some more. Since then I've been gathering more craftie books about me, I've nearly finished some daffodils for a card, I've got a teatowel with an aida band lined up, followed by a baby's bib, a coaster and some more cards.

There is a point to this journal, I'm not just rambling.

Another friend of mine is expecting (something in the water, huh?), unclear on gender so far, and I'm looking to embroider her a wee bib for the baby. My problem is finding charts. I have the bib, I can get the threads, I've got a picture I want to embroider on, but I cannot for the life of me make a pattern. My mother bought me some pattern making software which is -great- for large projects, but when it comes to teeny ones it throws a wobbler. It's only a short aida band on this bib, about 7.5 inches by 3 in total, so less for stitching area. I think it's 14 count, although I'm not sure.

a) does anyone have any advice on making my own pattern?
b) does anyone know of any decent free software for making a pattern?
c) does anyone have a pattern with a teeny piggie, chicken, sheep, turtle or bunny? Can't be more than 3 inches high.
d) does anyone have some valium?

Patterns don't have to be cross stitch, I've been looking up other stitches recently. On my holiday last august I found a little treasure, dating back to the 1930s, Dictionary of Embroidery Stitches by Mary Thomas. And a store with books for £1-£3 instead of their RRP of £14. I LOVE Poole. So far I've mastered lazy daisy stitch and chain, double running stitch, back stitch, algerian eye stitch, french knots (damn, they're buggers to do), blanket stitch, herringbone stitch (another which took me a while..but now I can even turn corners!), fan stitch (beautiful), upright cross stitch, star stitch and how to whip some. Really having fun, when my list of projects comes to an end I'll be trying a sampler. Hoping to attempt hardanger and embroidery onto clothing etc.. once I figure out what I need to do with regards to stabilisers, backing, etc.

Off on another tangent now, I've been wanting to design a decent CSS layout for my journal, mine is the most boring owned by a subscriber..ever. I'd appreciate ideas and any guides for dummies that people can find. I have a -basic- understanding of CSS, it's more the graphics that are my current nightmare. And inspiration. It's -horrible- trying to be an artist when you have no real taste and a constant block.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help with the stitching problem. I need to get this finished by september and I'm a slow sewer thanks to arthritis.

Oh gods, I'm so behind >.<

"622 deviations, 838 messages"

My apologies to you all for the delay in replying to messages. I've had a lot going on IRL recently including PC issues, a death, a birth, a lovely guy'n'family stuff as well as various illnesses. Oh, and overtime in work, yipee.

I promise you I'll eventually get around to clearing my message center, but until then, let me thank everyone who's given me a fave or comment in here.
